Built by Wi-Fi engineers for Wi-Fi engineers! The WLAN Pi is a community-driven and community-developed tool that fills in a bunch of gaps left in the wireless tools space. It’s all based around the NanoPi NEO2, a single-board computer that runs a custom, WLAN-focused version of Linux.

The WLAN Pi can perform a variety of wireless networking tasks, with more features being regularly added by the community. The WLAN Pi is an excellent throughput testing endpoint, thanks to the built-in gigabit Ethernet port, supporting throughput testing with iPerf2, iPerf3, and in a web browser. It also features a Comfast CF-912AC wireless adapter, which can be used for a variety of functions, including being a small access point, performing wireless packet captures, and even capturing client device capabilities.

The WLAN Pi is bundled up in the 3D-printed WLAN Pi Handheld case, which keeps all of the components bundled together and protected from drops and tumbles. The case is printed with PETG, which offers a nice balance between rigidity and flexibility. No more assembling your WLAN Pi when you arrive on-site – it’s all contained in one case like your other handheld networking tools and meters, and you can chuck it back in your bag when you’re done.

Both power and data connectivity are available through the built-in USB-C cable, which conveniently clips onto the back of the WLAN Pi Handheld when not in use. Still using USB-A? No worries; the USB-C cable includes a USB-A adapter on the back which also clips into a recess in the case. You can also still see the power and activity LED’s, and the microSD card is completely accessible. Both the Ethernet and USB-A ports on the bottom of the WLAN Pi are easily accessible. The sticker on the front of the WLAN Pi Handheld lists at-a-glance information such as the default IP address, username, and password.
